How often should I change my brake fluid?

July 20, 2017 by Pacific Coast Benz Leave a Comment

How often should I change my brake fluid?

Mercedes-Benz recommends that a brake fluid flush be performed every 2 years, or 20,000 miles. Sometimes it may be necessary to flush your brake fluid even more often depending on climate conditions. Moisture (water) is your brake fluids worst enemy.

The brake system in a Mercedes-Benz consists of an interconnected array of components which operate with precision, speed and often extreme force over a wide range of operating temperatures and environmental conditions.

From the brake calipers at each wheel, to under hood components such as the master cylinder and pump for Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESP), the brake system contains complex parts that rely on brake fluid to perform their hydraulic tasks.

Brake fluid is highly hygroscopic which means it tends to absorb moisture with age. This moisture consequentially creates corrosion within internal brake components and decreases the boiling point of the brake fluid, thereby reducing braking effectiveness.

A brake fluid flush/bleed is relatively inexpensive so call us today to schedule your next service.

What is an A-Service?

July 20, 2017 by Pacific Coast Benz Leave a Comment

What exactly is an A-Service?

Oil Change
Well most Mercedes-Benz owners don’t know that an A-service always includes an “oil change”. That’s if it’s done by a qualified Independent Mercedes-Benz specialist. We go directly off the check list provided by the factory every time we perform this service (see services page on this web site for more info).

Some owner’s of MBZ cars will request just an “oil change” which is the incorrect way of performing this service and a short cut. There are numerous items that are checked/tested during the course of an A-service that would otherwise be missed if we just did an “oil change”

Secondly keep in mind that most oil and lube establishments don’t always utilize the correct oil or even filter. Pacific Coast Benz will ALWAYS use full synthetic Mobil – 1 motor oil which is approved and recommended by Mercedes-Benz. Also by using the correct factory fleece oil filter this enables the engine to run at 10,000 mile intervals (minimum depending on engine) between services.

I can’t count how many times I have seen inferior Chinese made oil filters that are “sandwiched” within the oil filter housing causing particles to circulate within the engine internals which obviously can cause severe engine damage. So remember the sub-standard “lube and filter joint” will probably use the cheap filter and oil in you car! Most of my clients don’t want this and continue to protect their investment my servicing their Mercedes with us knowing that we not only have the experience but the correct parts for the job.

So the next time you consider going to a non-Mercedes specialist for an oil change,
please call us first.

You wont regret it. – Pacific Coast Benz

July 20, 2017 by Pacific Coast Benz Leave a Comment

Are your brakes squeaking?

Are you embarrassed to drive your Mercedes-Benz because it makes a horrible sound when applying the brakes?

Brake squeak can be caused by several things. Worn out brake discs, worn out brake pads, Chinese made brake pads which are manufactured with the WRONG compounds or maybe the last repair shop didn’t correctly apply brake lube.

So if your sick and tired of brake squeak, schedule an appointment for a complimentary brake inspection. We will get to the bottom of it for you and make the needed repairs!
